Follow your bliss
I could never grasp the concept that "Happiness is a decision" or that "You can choose to be happy" but somehow, I can understand Joseph Campbell's "Follow your bliss" philosophy. For me, deciding on what I want and going ahead to get it makes me feel empowered whereas forcing myself to be "happy" when I'm in a sad or frustrating situation just makes me feel all the more depressed.
This realization came to me after watching "The Secret" DVD and reading the book of the same title, both by Rhonda Byrne. The DVD and book's message is just similar to other self-help/inspirational/motivational books/cds/dvd/seminars out there but what's refreshing is the way the content is presented and delivered. I mean, I already knew that I should ASK, BELIEVE and RECEIVE even before I read/watched "The Secret", but this DVD/book made me literally list down everything that I really want from the Universe! And as a New Year's treat, I am sharing them with you here. Behold, everything I want in my lifetime, receivable in the near and distant future (Note that based on The Secret's teachings, I believe that they are already mine):
I want my own office parking space.I want my promotion.- I want my sexy body.
- I want my new clothes.
- I want my braces.
- I want my laser hair removal treatment.
- I want my out-of-town vacations.
- I want my travels abroad.
- I want my Mercedes Benz.
- I want my condominium at Makati.
- I want my own building.
- I want my developed properties at Bataan (subdivision or resort).
- I want my food business.
- I want my pawnshop business.
- I want my toys/maquettes/mini-busts/comics shop.
- I want my Internet cafe.
- I want my heavy-traffic websites.
- I want my complete coin/stamps/postcard collection.
- I want my photography hobby.
I want my dance classes.- I want my healthy and wealthy family.
- I want my memorial lot for my whole family.
- I want my fabulous wedding.
- I want my happy married life with Bot.
- I want my beautiful, talented and smart children (boy and girl).
- I want my splendid house.
I may tweak or add to this list in the future but for now, this is pretty much it. To cap, let me leave you with this Joseph Campbell quote:
"Follow your bliss. If you do follow your bliss, you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while waiting for you, and the life you ought to be living is the one you are living. When you can see that, you begin to meet people who are in the field of your bliss, and they open the doors to you. I say, follow your bliss and don't be afraid, and doors will open where you didn't know they were going to be. If you follow your bliss, doors will open for you that wouldn't have opened for anyone else."
